Rep. Green Co-Sponsors Bill to Save Women’s Sports

Republicans in the U.S. House, including one from Tennessee, are stepping in to try to stop President Joe Biden from essentially ending women’s sports.

“Sports are based on the idea of fair competition. Allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports destroys a level playing field and denies women an equal opportunity,” Rep. Mark Green (R-TN-07) said on Twitter. “Today, I cosponsored [Rep. Greg Steube’s] bill to protect the integrity of women’s sports.”

Stuebe is a Republican representing Florida’s 17th District, who introduced legislation Friday called The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

The text of the bill would make it a violation of federal law for “a recipient of Federal funds who operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls.”

The Biden administration has other ideas.

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports,” Biden’s Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation, mandated on January 20, says in part.

The executive order strips federal funding from any publicly-funded institution that does not allow biological males to compete in women’s sports.

Green is a physician, and thus an expert in biology. His co-sponsorship of Stuebe’s bill lends credibility to the scientific reasoning behind barring biological males from competing in women’s sports.

Many Democrats, including those at The Washington Post,  insist that Biden’s executive order serves as “LGBTQ protection.” Similarly, NBC described the executive order as “expanding LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections.”

Eighteen states, along with Washington, D.C., already have laws in place allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports.

Last year, three female high school track runners from Connecticut sued the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), after two transgender females – biological males – placed first and second, respectively, in an event in 2020’s girls Class S state track championships.
